Day 9 - Shark Diving

Words can not express the thrill of descending into a cage surrounded by sharks. There were two types that we saw, the Great White of course, and another big one whose name we couldn't quite catch. The South African accent can be straining on the ears.

From the moment we arrived at the offices of the diving company we signed up for, the staff was professional and helpful. There were some complications with our reservations due to some nasty weather in days prior, but the company was able to sort it out. In fact, there hadn't been any tours going out at all in the past few days, so a few other passengers were in the same boat as us (get it? lol).

The boat had a capacity of around 50 persons, with an upper deck that allowed for better photo angles without the reflection of the water.

Around the time the skipper anchored near an island inhabited by seals, the main source of food for our friendly sharks, Nadine began feeling sick. It is important to note that we did in fact have patches for sea sicknesses, but she refused to use one as she had never had an issue out on the open seas. She was a champion about it though, and would not let it stop her from diving!

About an hour east of Gansbaai is a small town called L'Agulhas, which is the southern most point of Africa.

Without a place to sleep, we stopped in quite a few self-catering B&B's in search of a decent sized bed, a kitchen, and running water. An hour later we finally found.... a farm! SwelleN2.

It was there we fed sheep and cows, interacted with black pigs, and mingled with the locals.

For supper we fired up the braai and had ourselves a feast.
