We will start off by saying that we never even went to the city of Phuket. When we arrived via ferry, we negotiated with a taxi driver to take us to our hotel, which is a solid 30 minutes drive south of the city to a place called Panwa Peninsula. We found a really nice hotel resort on the water called Kantara Bay with a beautiful western view that produced magical sunsets.
We were in for a surprise. Nadine had booked the hotel and decided she would write it was our honeymoon. It was not so far fetched as this whole trip is considered a pre-honeymoon/ honeymoon trip, but it is always better to tell hotels you are celebrating something! The gift of life is something to always celebrate!
When we arrived at the hotel they were SO nice to us, they showed us to our upgraded room with a beautiful sea viewSince we had only booked for 2 nights, when we decided to stay for more they had to move us to an equally big and upgraded room.
We were in the room for about 30 min checking out all the amenities. We had opened the fridge to put in water and take out water at least 4-5 times already. On the 5th time we noticed a box that we hadn't noticed before. We opened it....
The place was great, two beautiful pools. One with a spectacular sunset view. The hotel was full of interesting flowers and flower arrangements.
A two minute free shuttle ride took us to the sister hotel on the other side of the peninsula, where they owned a private beach available to guests of either hotel. We spent four nights at the hotel, doing a whole lot of nothing.
We ate breakfast (and took more food for lunch), went twice to a restaurant called Eat Me, got couple massages, went to the pools at both hotels, exercised in the gym, and sat by the beach, Nadine worked. That was it. That was all we did.
The only real interesting things to note were the animals and creatures on the beach. We found many crabs, an orange caterpillar with a blue head, and a 2 foot monitor lizard.
We had previously been searching for hard copy books to read, but had not been so fortunate in Krabi or Phi Phi to find any used bookstores. Luckily, the hotel had hundreds of books to choose from. Nadine found a dramatic, thriller that she read cover to cover in two days. Ben finished off a Baldacci thriller. People aren't really supposed to take books and not return them, but we took a couple for the road, knowing we have the weeklong cruise ahead of us. We promise to pay it forward and leave the new books elsewhere for others to enjoy.
Here are some pictures of the week:
The day before the flight to Singapore, which is today, we booked a hotel next to the airport so we can head off for our 9:30am flight. There is not much to do around here, but we have a pool and the restaurant around the block had Tom Kah. Also, Ben paid $4 for a much needed haircut.
Tomorrow we will be visiting our 8th country, Singapore. Just for fun, we are also listing all of the flights we have been on since we started traveling three months ago. 19 individual flights in total, layovers included.
